About Stephen
Stephen is a Registered Veterinary Technician Specialist with advanced expertise in veterinary anesthesia, pain management, and integrative analgesia. He brings a thoughtful, research-informed approach to patient comfort and pain control at Remedy, grounded in a deep respect for the human–animal bond.
A California native, Stephen began his clinical training in 2004 while in college at American River College and South University before becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2009. While working at UC Davis, he developed a focused interest in anesthesia and pain management, leading him to pursue specialty certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist with an emphasis on research anesthesia and analgesia in 2016. In 2019, he became a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner through the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, where he also served on the board of directors. He recently earned his Master's in Veterinary Anesthesiology.
Stephen is an internationally recognized educator in veterinary anesthesia, pain management, and cannabinoid medicine. He is the co-founder of two education platforms for veterinary professionals, Veterinary Anesthesia Nerds and the Veterinary Cannabinoid Academy (this platform has now been ended), and has contributed extensively to research and publications in his field, including the first veterinary textbook on cannabinoid medicine. His contributions to education and clinical practice have been recognized through multiple professional awards.
In addition to his clinical and educational work, Stephen maintains a laboratory manager role at Stanford University in the Department of Neurobiology. He adores all animals, with a particular fondness for senior pets and cats with strong personalities. He lives with his husband in San Jose.
