Intro
This is an antibiotic (penicillin with beta-lactase inhibitor) that is most commonly given for urinary as well as lung, skin, and other soft tissue infections. Like all antibiotics it is important that you finish the prescription as directed.
Missed doses and Changing medications
If you miss a dose go ahead and give it as soon as you remember, unless it is close to time for the next dose. If that’s the case, skip the missed dose and resume on schedule at the next dose. Please finish the entire course of medication unless instructed to do otherwise by a veterinarian.
Monitoring and Labwork
In some instances, the medical team may recommend we recheck labwork like a white blood cell count or culture before discontinuing this medication. Please contact the medical team if you have questions.
Side effects
This medication seems to be very well tolerated overall. The majority of animals will not have any side effects from this medication. The following side effects have been reported:
GI side effects including inappetence, vomiting and diarrhea. GI problems can be prevented in some animals by starting a pro-biotic supplement with the antibiotics. If your pet has GI upset while on this medication please contact your veterinarian.
Rarely drug allergies and neurotoxicity have been reported
