About Dr. Qahwash

Dr. Mona Qahwash is a board-certified veterinary neurologist with a clinical focus on complex brain and spinal disorders. She brings a wealth of clinical expertise and a thoughtful, measured approach to neurological care at Remedy Veterinary Specialists.

Originally from Michigan, Dr. Qahwash earned her undergraduate degree in zoology and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, followed by a focused neurology and neurosurgery internship at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta. She then completed her residency in Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2017.

Dr. Qahwash is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology) and has particular expertise in complex neurologic conditions, surgical interventions, and improving the quality of life for pets with chronic neurologic disease.

Dr. Qahwash At Remedy

At Remedy Veterinary Specialists in San Francisco, Dr. Qahwash sees dogs and cats with the full range of neurologic conditions, with a special interest in seizures and epilepsy, from a pet’s first seizure to hard-to-control cases that need careful medication planning. Her training covers both neurology and neurosurgery, and she performs spinal surgery, including surgery for intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). Working alongside Dr. Carrie Jurney and Remedy’s on-site MRI, she guides pets from diagnosis through medical or surgical treatment.

Pet parents often describe her approach as calm and thorough. She takes the time to explain what’s happening, what the options are, and what recovery will realistically look like, so families can make decisions with confidence.

Cats hold a special place in Dr. Qahwash’s work. Her published research focused on seizures in young cats, and at home she’s a devoted black cat person.
